I'm concerned about SDG number 15, life on land.
This goal is about protecting, restoring and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, so basically it includes the sustainable management of the forests, combating desertification, reversing land degradation and controlling biodiversity loss.
Reaching this goal is essential, because life on land is the foundation of the Earth and therefore if we want to save the planet we can't afford to lose ecosystems and biodiversity so we have to promote a global effort to stop all the damages caused to the environment.
In Portugal there is a plan to conserve nature and biodiversity but there are still a lot of objectives that are unaccomplished. For example in our plan to organize the territory, there are 2000 areas that are still to be organized to this day.
Desertification is also a problem in Portugal, mostly in the south (interior) part of the country due to the dry type of weather that affects the region. One thing that can be done is planting trees that can provide us with shade, making the ecosystems more sustainable and therefore preventing desertification.
If we can manage these territories well they can become big biodiversity producers, and that helps to make the soil better preventing it's degradation.
