How Artificial Intelligence influences gender equality

Artificial Intelligence is the ability that a computer or machine has to think, orin by other words, it's their capacity to mimic some of our human functions . It's also a scientific field that involves studying and programming these robots to act as “smart” as possible, therefore acting in the most similar way to us humans, allowing them to learn, solve problems and do certain tasks like driving, a few housekeeping tasks like vacuuming.
In the twenty-first century, AI has experienced a lot of advances in computer power, large amounts of data, and theoretical understanding; and AI techniques have become an essential part of technology, helping to solve many challenging problems in computer science, software engineering and operations research.
The use of AI can also lead to the reinforcement of gender stereotypes mostly because there is proof that people think that male robots are trustworthy and competent and female robots seem more likeable mas not so reliable. For example, digital voice assistants like Siri and Alexa, represent female stereotypes because they do “tasks traditionally assigned to women”, like scheduling appointments and setting reminders.
With all this said, I think that AI shows that there are still too many oversimplified ideas about gender equality, meaning that people still think that genders have a determined role and each one can only perform jobs made for them and this is being reinforced by AI technology.

A Day in the Life of a teenager in lockdown

Corona-Virus has affected my life in several ways. For example, I'm no longer capable to go out with friends or go to basketball practice which are things that I miss a lot. At least I have been helping my mom with chores, which is good. I'm also incapable of visiting my family, mostly my grandparents something that I used to do frequently and for now no longer happens.  Usually when I don't have anything to do my favourite pastime activities are playing videogames with my friends and also playing basketball in my backyard, which is the only way I can play it at the moment, of course, although I still have practice by Zoom.  As I mentioned earlier, I mostly miss my family and friends and it makes me sad that I can't spend time with them currently. This made my Easter very unusual because they couldn't be here during that time.  This epidemic has been an awful experience, but it made realize that I need to start appreciating all the time that I get to spend wi...

Talking about SDG number 15

I'm concerned about SDG number 15, life on land. This goal is about protecting, restoring and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, so basically it includes the sustainable management of the forests, combating desertification, reversing land degradation and controlling biodiversity loss. Reaching this goal is essential, because life on land is the foundation of the Earth and therefore if we want to save the planet we can't afford to lose ecosystems and biodiversity so we have to promote a global effort to stop all the damages caused to the environment. In Portugal there is a plan to conserve nature and biodiversity but there are still a lot of objectives that are unaccomplished. For example in our plan to organize the territory, there are 2000 areas that are still to be organized to this day. Desertification is also a problem in Portugal, mostly in the south (interior) part of the country due to the dry type of weather that affects the region. One thing t...
